چکیده

CBCT versus conventional CT Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), which is also referred to as cone beam volumetric imaging (CBVI) and cone beam volumetric tomography (CBVT), is an extraoral radiographic method of producing three-dimensional digital radiographic information (Patel et al, 2009a; Patel, 2009; Miles, 2008; McNamara, Kapila, 2006; Horner, Drage, Brettle, 2008; Patel et al, 2007). In conventional CT scanning machines, the X-ray source and detector rotate 360o around the patient at around the rate of 60 times per minute, with a thin fan-shaped beam of X-rays directed through the patient. The thickness of each image slice is determined by the distance the patient is moved through the inside of the CT scanning machine during this synchronised rotation. This creates multiple sectional images that are then processed by a computer to create a three-dimensional image of the patient’s region of interest (Beckmann, 2006, Miles, 2008; Horner, Drage, Brettle, 2008; Patel et al, 2007). In cone beam CT scanning devices, unlike conventional CT, a narrow cone-shaped beam, as opposed to a fanshaped beam, rotates between 180 to 360 degrees CBCT within endodontics: an introduction

European Society of Endodontology position statement: the use of CBCT in endodontics.

This Position Statement represents a consensus of an expert committee convened by the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) on the use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). The statement is based on the current scientific evidence, and provides the clinician with evidence-based criteria on when to use CBCT in Endodontics. Given the dynamic and changing nature of research, development of ne...

Intraoperative endodontic applications of cone-beam computed tomography.

INTRODUCTION The use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in endodontics for diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up has been extensively reported in the literature. Compared with the traditional spiral computed tomography, high-resolution limited CBCT results in a fraction of the effective absorbed dose of radiation. However, it should be prescribed only after weighing the cost of radi...

Accuracy of periapical radiography and cone-beam computed tomography scans in diagnosing apical periodontitis using histopathological findings as a gold standard.

INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of two imaging methods in diagnosing apical periodontitis (AP) using histopathological findings as a gold standard. METHODS The periapex of 83 treated or untreated roots of dogs' teeth was examined using periapical radiography (PR), cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, and histology. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive va...

Cone beam computed tomography in Endodontics - a review.

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces undistorted three-dimensional information of the maxillofacial skeleton, including the teeth and their surrounding tissues with a lower effective radiation dose than computed tomography. The aim of this paper is to: (i) review the current literature on the applications and limitations of CBCT; (ii) make recommendations for the use of CBCT in Endodon...

The importance of cone-beam computed tomography in the management of endodontic problems: a review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION To obtain essential information in clinical endodontics, cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging can be used in all phases of treatment including diagnosis, treatment planning, during the treatment phase, and through post-treatment assessment and follow-up. The purpose of this article was to review the use of CBCT imaging in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and assessing th...
